Google Business Profile verification status explained

Your Google Business Profile verification status is shown in three places, all signed in with the Google account that owns or manages the profile. It is not something you can judge by searching your business name as a customer would.

• Google Search. Search "my business" or your business name. Your profile appears with the owner's controls on top, and an unverified or pending profile shows a banner or a Get verified button there.
• Business Profile Manager, at business.google.com. It lists every profile you manage with a status next to each one. This is the clearest view, and the only practical one if you run several branches.
• The Google Maps app. Tap your profile picture, then Your Business Profiles. The same banners appear here, handy when you are checking from your phone at the shop.

The exact wording shifts as Google updates the interface, but the states have stayed much the same. Here is what each one means and what to do about it.

• Verified. Done. The profile can appear on Search and Maps, and your edits go live after Google's normal checks. Nothing to do except keep the details accurate.
• Verification required, or a Get verified button. You have claimed or created the profile but not proved you run the business. Customers probably cannot see it yet. Start verification from the button.
• Pending review, or "Your verification is under review". You submitted evidence, usually a video, and a reviewer has not decided yet. Do not submit again or create a new profile while you wait.
• Verification failed, or "We couldn't verify your business". The reviewer was not convinced. The message rarely says why. You can usually try again, sometimes with a different method.
• Suspended. A policy problem, not a verification one: Google has restricted the profile. Re-verifying will not fix it; an appeal will. See how to fix a suspended Google Business Profile.
• Needs reverification, or Verify again. You were verified, then changed something Google treats as significant, such as the business name, address or primary category, or Google's systems flagged the profile. Your edits, and sometimes the profile itself, wait until you verify again.
• Duplicate. Business Profile Manager may label a profile this way when Google thinks another listing is the same business. Do not verify both; sort out which one is real first, as explained in how to handle a duplicate Google listing.

It depends on the method Google offers you, and timings vary with how busy Google's reviewers are. These are honest ranges, not promises.

• Video recording. Usually reviewed within a few business days; Google itself says up to about five. Some take one to two weeks, especially around busy periods.
• Live video call. Often decided during or shortly after the call, though a decision can still take a few days.
• Phone, text or email code. Instant once you enter the code, but these are rarely offered to new Philippine businesses.
• Postcard. Rarely offered now. When it is, delivery to a Philippine address can take several weeks and sometimes never arrives.
• Reverification after an edit. Similar to a first verification by the same method, and your changes stay pending until it clears.

Up to about a week, wait. Past two weeks with no change, it is reasonable to contact support and ask for an update, but do not re-submit the video or start over with a new profile. A second profile at the same address is the most common way a slow verification turns into a duplicate or a suspension.

While you wait, check that the profile itself is not the reason. A business name with extra keywords, a pin on the wrong street or a category that does not match what the video shows can all hold a review up.

When verification fails, the fastest route is to find the weak point, fix it, and only then retry. In our experience it is almost always one of these.

• The address. It should match your mayor's permit or barangay business clearance exactly, including unit number, floor, building and barangay. If the profile address and the permit disagree, change the profile, not the permit.
• The name. Use the name on your signage and your DTI or SEC registration, with no locations or keywords added.
• The signage. It has to be visible and readable in the video. A tarpaulin taken down after opening week, or a mall stall whose name is hidden behind a shutter, leaves nothing to confirm.

• The category. The primary category should describe what the reviewer will actually see in the video.

Contact Google Business Profile support from the Business Profile Help Center, using the Contact us option, when a review has been pending for more than two weeks, when two or three attempts have failed after you fixed the obvious problems, or when Google stops offering any verification method at all.

Have everything ready in one message: the link to your profile, screenshots of the status message, your business permit, your DTI or SEC registration, and clear photos of the storefront and signage. Ask one specific question, such as what evidence was missing, and keep the same case open rather than opening new ones.
