Facebook page vs Google Business Profile: do you need both?
Run your shop on Facebook and Messenger? Why Philippine businesses still need a Google Business Profile, what each does well, and how to keep both matching.

Key takeaways
- Facebook is where your regulars follow you and message you. Google is where strangers searching "near me" find you.
- A Facebook Page does very little for your place in the Google Maps results. Only a Business Profile gets you there.
- Name, address, phone and hours should be identical on both, holiday hours included.
- Link them to each other, so customers and answer engines can tell they are the same shop.
Do I still need Google if my shop runs on Facebook?
Yes. The facebook page vs google business profile question comes up constantly with Philippine owners, and it is a fair one. Your customers already follow your Page, they order through Messenger, they pay by GCash, and it works. Why maintain a second listing?
Because the two reach different people. Facebook is where people who already know you keep up with you: they see your new menu in their feed, they message to ask if you are open on the 30th. Google is where people who have never heard of you look for something nearby. Someone new to the barangay typing "milk tea near me" or "dentist open Sunday" gets the Google Maps results, and a Facebook Page is not what fills that list.
So the answer is not one or the other. Facebook keeps your regulars coming back. Google brings in the next customer who has never heard of you.
Does a Facebook Page help me rank on Google Maps?
Barely. The list of businesses you see on Google Maps, and the map with three pins at the top of a Google search, comes from Google Business Profiles. Google ranks them on relevance, distance and prominence, and the signals that move them most are on the profile itself: the right primary category, a complete profile, reviews and replies, photos, and a verified address.
Google does say prominence draws on what it knows about a business from across the web, so a consistent, active Facebook Page is a small plus. It is not a substitute. A shop with thousands of Page followers and no verified profile simply does not appear in the Maps results. Your Facebook Page may still show up in ordinary Google results when someone searches your exact name, which helps people who already know you, not strangers.

What does each one do well?
Neither is better. They do different jobs, and it helps to see them side by side.
- Facebook: conversation. Messenger is how many Filipino customers prefer to ask, order and book. Google ended the chat feature on Business Profiles in 2024, so Messenger has no Google equivalent.
- Facebook: staying in touch. Posts, photos, promos and live videos reach people who already follow you. It is the place for your payday sale on the 15th.
- Facebook: recommendations. Customers can recommend your Page or not, with text. There are no stars.
- Google: being found by strangers. The Maps results for "near me" searches, driving directions, and the call button all live on your Business Profile.
- Google: star reviews that count. Google reviews are rated one to five, shown right in search results, and feed your ranking.
- Google: accurate details at the moment of decision. Hours, the pin on the map, photos of the entrance inside the mall, and a phone number, seen by someone deciding where to go right now.
What should match on both?
Everything a customer would use to find you or reach you. When your Facebook Page says one thing and Google says another, customers do not know which to believe, and search engines are less sure the two listings are the same business.
- Business name. The name on your signage and your DTI or SEC registration, spelled the same way. No extra keywords on either platform.
- Address. The same format on both, with unit, floor, building and barangay. If you are inside a mall, name the mall and the floor on both.
- Phone number. One main number, written the same way. If you changed your mobile number, change it on both the same day.
- Regular hours. The same opening and closing times on both.
- Holiday and special hours. Holy Week, Christmas, a typhoon closure. Set special hours on Google, and on Facebook update your Page hours and pin a short post, since customers check both.
- Categories and description. They will not be word for word, but they should describe the same business. A café on one and a bakery on the other is a mismatch.
How do I link my Facebook Page and my Google profile?
Point each one at the other. On your Google Business Profile, open the profile editor and look under contact details: there is a website field and a section for social media profiles, where you can add your Facebook Page and Instagram. If you have no website, you can leave the website field empty rather than putting Facebook there, since the social profiles field exists for it.
On Facebook, add your website if you have one, and mention on the Page that customers can find you on Google Maps. When you ask happy customers for a review, send them to the Google one, because that is the review that helps strangers find you. Here is how to ask customers for Google reviews without it feeling awkward, and a free Google review link generator that makes it one tap.
Then fill in the Google side properly. A linked profile with half its fields empty is still a weak profile; the Google Business Profile optimization checklist walks through each one.
How do ChatGPT and Gemini read the two?
More and more customers ask an assistant instead of searching: "where can I get a good haircut near Ayala?" These tools build their answer from what they can find and trust. Gemini can draw directly on Google Maps data, so your Business Profile carries a lot of weight there. ChatGPT and others lean on web search results, where your Business Profile, your Facebook Page and review sites can all appear.
Consistency matters here even more than for people. If the name, address and hours match everywhere, the assistant can be confident they describe one real shop. If they conflict, it may leave you out or repeat the wrong hours. Our guide on showing up in ChatGPT and Gemini recommendations goes further.
Where does Mapkita fit?
Mapkita keeps your Google page right: it answers reviews, keeps your hours and details correct, and prepares special hours before holidays. You can also connect your Facebook Page, and then Messenger messages and Facebook recommendations land in the same inbox as your Google reviews, each with a drafted reply. Messenger replies you can send from there, within the 24 hours after a customer writes that Meta allows. Replies to recommendations you post on Facebook yourself, because Meta does not let any app publish them.
Frequently asked
- Can I use my Facebook Page instead of a Google Business Profile?
- Not if you want new customers to find you on Google Maps. The Maps results are built from Business Profiles, and a Facebook Page, however popular, does not put you on that list. Keep the Page for your regulars and for Messenger, and set up a verified profile on Google as well. Both are free.
- Should I put my Facebook Page in the website field on Google?
- Use the social media profiles section for your Facebook Page and Instagram. If you have a real website, put that in the website field. If you do not, it is better to leave the website field empty than to point it at Facebook, and a simple one-page site is worth considering later, since it gives search engines and assistants more to read.
- Do Facebook recommendations count toward my Google rating?
- No. Google calculates your star rating only from reviews left on Google. Facebook recommendations have no stars at all, just recommend or not recommend with text. They still matter for people who find you through Facebook, so reply to them, but when you ask a customer for a review to help new people find you, send them to Google.
- My hours are different on Facebook and Google. Which one do customers see?
- Whichever they happen to open, which is the problem. A customer who finds you on Maps sees Google's hours and may arrive to a closed shutter if those are old. Pick the correct hours, update both on the same day, and check again before long weekends and Holy Week, when special hours are most likely to be missing.
